Wikinomics, the book
I read this book Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams and wanted to share it with you. Reading this book gave me the motivation to set up this blog not just for me to ramble on but to invite others to share their thoughts and basically collaborate to solve problems.
Based on my interpretation, the book's essential theme speaks about how traditional collaboration is now being replaced by collaboration among the masses and of course the internet is fuelling this shift in market power. Economic power is being transferred to the hands of the customer as they can dictate what they want, and the marketplace will become a more level playing field between producers and customers.
One of the examples that struck me was how Rob McEwen, CEO of Goldcorp Inc., former investment banker, and gold mining newbie, went against the grain of industry practices to share often secretly-guarded proprietary information and findings on gold mining spots. He basically put all that information on the internet and invited people to analyse and work out potential new gold mining spots. The results of this project was astounding as it attracted people, not just engineers but mathematicians etc. The end result was a big jump in the value of the company that revived its declining fortunes.
The book also talks about Second Life. I am still trying to figure out the value underlying it. Any thoughts on it are welcomed. http://secondlife.com/
You can get read more about the book here Wikinomics or read the website that the authors have created http://www.wikinomics.com/
Let me know how you think this concept could apply in your business and what you think about Second Life.
Cheers

Hello Entrepreneurs!

Hello and Welcome to our blog! This is The Blog for Entrepreneurs in Asia. We have created a space for you to share your thoughts and ideas as an entrepreneur, and to ask for suggestions/advice on solving a business problem you may have. It is also a space for you to make new friends and who knows form business connections.
Why entrepreneurs in Asia? Well this webspace is owned by Asset Ideas Sdn. Bhd., a company based in Asia; Malaysia to be specific. We believe this is the region of the future and fellow Asians have a lot to share with one another as our cultures have underlying similarities.
Our mission is simple i.e. to help start-ups have the best chance of success. And this blog space is a platform to create an online community of likeminded people as they bond and walk through this journey together as entrepreneurs.
We understand that it can be very lonely as a business owner or self-employed especially at the start-up stage or 'difficult' stage where often the people closest to you may not understand the path you are taking and the challenges you have to manage. This is a space for you to share your thoughts and feelings anoynmously or otherwise. And hopefully this will give you the courage to soldier on.
Our sister website is www.SMEassistant.Com, The One-Stop Centre for SMEs in Malaysia. Do go to www.SMEassistant.Com to check us out. We register local or foreign-owned companies at the Companies Commission of Malaysia (formerly Registrar of Companies), provide company secretarial services, accounting, tax, audit services, also business plan writing for grant/loan and MSC application etc etc in Malaysia. www.SMEassistant.Com is also owned by Asset Ideas Sdn. Bhd.
Do drop us comments! Cheers
